- Above It All -

A serene Parisian escape, elevated in every sense.

A complete renovation of a 200 sqm apartment in Paris.

Roof Top

Located on the top floor of a magnificent Haussmannian building in the 16th arrondissement, this apartment had exceptional potential: generous volumes, a well-proportioned entrance gallery, natural light, and sweeping views of the sky and Parisian rooftops.

However, it had undergone a series of unfortunate modifications over the years. False ceilings had hidden the original plaster cornices, the air conditioning system was highly visible, and some areas were far too narrow for the level of sophistication expected.

We decided to start from scratch, guided by a clear and simple vision: pure lines, noble materials, and a sense of calm, ergonomic elegance. The goal was to design a refined living environment, harmonious and inviting—hallmarks of Véronique Cotrel’s approach to interior architecture, both in Paris and in New York.

The Kitchen

The location of the kitchen was a major point of discussion. We had two options: a more intimate, closed-off version—or a spacious, open layout that would mean sacrificing a formal dining room. Ultimately, we prioritized daily life and chose the second option, creating a warm, open kitchen that functions as a family hub and also welcomes guests.

To keep it practical, a discreet adjacent space houses technical appliances. A spectacular wine cellar, placed between the kitchen and living area, creates a smooth visual transition between the two zones. It also offers storage and a relaxed ambiance—tying the entire space together with understated harmony.

Circulation and Passages

The passageways between rooms were designed in Carrara marble with refined Art Deco detailing. This aesthetic suited the period of the building and the understated luxury of the project. Since most original architectural elements had been removed over time, we embraced the opportunity to rebuild a complete interior world—right down to the custom fireplace, designed in-house and installed by our craftsmen.

The main living area includes both the salon and dining room. The fireplace becomes the focal point of the lounge, while in the dining room, a bespoke library steals the show. Its mirrored niches amplify depth and light, and the central niche displays carefully curated artworks from the owners’ private collection.

A Gentleman’s Dressing Room

On the other side of the gallery, echoing the wine cellar, we created a unique space: the "Dressoir"—as it might have been called a century ago. This is the owner’s dressing room, but it also includes a sitting area and a home office. Its glass-fronted wardrobes transform into luminous displays when lit from within, creating a playful, boudoir-like ambiance.

The Private Quarters

The master suite continues the same refined vocabulary, where light and noble materials take center stage. From the bedroom to the bathroom, the Art Deco inspiration is updated through custom cornices, marble treatments, and brass accents. The children's bathrooms offer a livelier, more colorful atmosphere—while maintaining the same level of timeless quality and craftsmanship.

This project exemplifies our studio’s signature blend of elegance, personalization, and architectural precision—whether in the heart of Paris or across the Atlantic in our interior design projects in New York.
