This apartment underwent a complete redesign. Beyond the usual exercise of relocating the kitchen—a frequent necessity in Haussmann-era buildings—the entire "night" area was reimagined. The original layout was poorly designed, and significant adjustments to the partitioning allowed for a much more rational and functional plan.
The "day" area consists of a spacious entrance gallery that leads to the living and dining rooms. A study is accessible on the opposite side.
The living room and kitchen were designed in natural, warm tones. Stone plays a key role—used for the kitchen countertops, the dining table, and the fireplaces—bringing strong character to these spaces. Wood also features prominently, especially in the walnut kitchen cabinetry.
Originally, the entryway was larger. It was shortened to create a buffer zone between the kitchen and the rest of the apartment. You can see this clearly in the floor plan shown below. Circulation areas are wide and ergonomic, and each space is well defined.
The floor plan was optimized to reduce wasted space and improve comfort and usability. This allowed for the creation of a true laundry room and a study, which also serves as a family room or guest bedroom. These kinds of multifunctional spaces can significantly improve day-to-day living. The reconfigured layout made it possible to include a full master suite (bedroom, bathroom, and walk-in closet), as well as two children’s bedrooms. The kids also have their own dedicated bathroom.
