- Neuilly's duplex apartment -
This apartment was acquired by the clients as a pied-à-terre in Paris. Based in New York, they reached out to us in search of a team capable of managing the project remotely. From the initial design concept to the selection of every detail, we guided them through the entire process, overseeing the complete interior architecture to bring their Parisian retreat to life.
This project involved substantial work on several technical aspects starting with the heating system. As part of a collective setup, it featured exposed piping that disrupted the aesthetic flow of the space. We removed and fully recessed the network into the floors, a complex operation that required collaboration with specialized contractors and coordination with the building’s co-op board.
We also carried out extensive restoration on key architectural features, including the plasterwork and original doors. Rethinking the interior architecture meant redesigning elements such as cornices, moldings, and the ornamental details typical of classic Parisian buildings.
The kitchen was relocated to a more central position, replacing a former bedroom. This new layout creates an open-plan flow on either side of the entrance gallery, allowing natural light to move freely throughout the apartment.
The original staircase, designed by Madeleine Castaing, was preserved and carefully restored to become a central feature of the living space. Its elegant architecture and soft, rounded lines bring a dynamic rhythm to the room. The spacious living area is composed of a dining room and a lounge, both arranged around the central entrance gallery.
The apartment now features four bedrooms. One of them is located on the “day” side of the home, adjacent to the living room. This room was completely reimagined, with custom built-in storage including closets and small niches framing the headboard. Facing the bed, a tailor-made desk nook was designed to blend seamlessly into the décor. The bedroom also includes an en-suite bathroom with a unique feature: an alcove that discreetly conceals the bathing area.
A master suite was created at the rear of the apartment, offering a spacious sleeping area, a custom-designed walk-in closet, and a contemporary bathroom. Refined materials, clean lines, and soft, neutral tones come together to create a calming, effortlessly elegant atmosphere. This generously sized room is also distinguished by its abundant natural light.
The space formerly occupied by the kitchen was transformed into a guest bedroom. Though compact in size, it offers all the essentials of a larger suite: custom storage, a private shower room, and a sense of seclusion. In contrast to the calm, neutral palette of the master suite, this room embraces bold colors, lending it a distinctly modern character.
The apartment also includes a fourth bedroom, located upstairs and accessible via the staircase in the living room. This elevated space is enclosed by a soundproof glass partition and includes a bedroom, a home office, and a shower room. Here too, strong colors take center stage - most notably with a striking red vintage sink that fits seamlessly into the mix of modern design elements.
