- New Athens -
Our clients were locals. In love with La Nouvelle Athènes, this charming part of Paris’s 9th arrondissement nestled between Saint-Georges and Pigalle, they were looking for a design firm with strong local roots. From the very first visit, it was clear that something special was about to unfold. This project is the meeting point between the clients, the architects, and the space itself. And what a space! A quintessential Parisian apartment with undeniable qualities: location, light, views, proportions. Every room evoked emotion and inspired creativity.
After an initial design phase—an essential step in any interior architecture project—we moved into the heart of the matter. The layout was finalized, the budget approved. Time to dive into materials! Natural stone, solid wood—the clients’ expectations were perfectly aligned with our values. This beautiful project unfolded like a four-handed composition… perhaps even more!
Where to begin… the entry? No. The dining room!
It’s located on the courtyard side. That steel bow window was already there, of course. Facing north, the light it brings in casts no shadows—gently bathing the furniture in a radiant softness. It’s beautiful. But we can’t take too much credit—everything was already there. The light, the parquet floors, the moldings, the doors, the fireplaces. What a joy it is to practice this craft in the most beautiful city in the world.
The kitchen isn’t far. Although it opens slightly onto the dining room, we wanted it to be a “real room” in its own right. The separation is made through an opening whose sidewalls were recreated in plaster—so seamlessly it looks as if it had always been there.
On the street side: the office and the living room.
We designed a custom bookshelf framing the fireplace, crafted in natural wood veneer. It brushes up against the plaster cornices without overpowering them. This space invites calm and relaxation. Adjacent to the living room, it's separated by a partition we chose to preserve. The living room has no TV. Richly decorated, it’s a space meant for entertaining friends. True lovers of art and vintage furniture, the clients took their time hunting for unique pieces in the neighborhood galleries to reflect their personality. The sofa is from Écart International, the distinguished French house that produces the iconic Michel Frank “Club” sofa.
The master suite follows on seamlessly from the living room.
It features three zones: a sleeping area, a dressing room, and a bathroom, separated from the bedroom by an interior glass partition. The fluted glass allows in soft, natural light while preserving privacy. The headboard is made of oak veneer paneling, perfectly aligned with the doors—it echoes the materials used in the dressing room and brings warmth to the space. The entire bathroom is clad in “Serpegiante Grey” marble. Natural stone is always a good idea in a bathroom. Timeless and elegant, it brings lasting character.
Finally, the second bathroom, finished in terrazzo, is naturally lit by a window overlooking a small inner courtyard. The view has been framed with a custom-built planter box, creating a final living tableau.
Let's bring your space to life.
