Complete renovation of a Normandy house with unique architecture

Our clients purchased this half-timbered house, located on the Normandy coast in Villers-sur-Mer, with the aim of offering it for seasonal rental. Their wish was to create an unusual, warm, and welcoming place, while maintaining the level of comfort and refinement expected of a high-end rental.

The villa underwent a complete renovation, both structurally and decoratively. The interior layout was entirely redesigned to create an elegant and welcoming atmosphere, in perfect harmony with the spirit of Normandy seaside homes.

A villa with unique architecture

Built in 1939, this villa features architecture that is unique in Normandy, blending Art Deco and Anglo-Norman styles. The original architect, Mr. Duprezbunel, also designed the post office in Villers-sur-Mer, renowned for its bold style and architectural details characteristic of the period.

The layout of the house now spans three levels. The basement houses a cozy movie theater. On the ground floor, a large living room opens onto two kitchens, one of which has direct access to the outdoors. Upstairs, five bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, offer comfort and privacy to their occupants.

A renovation in typical Norman style

The clients wanted to recreate the atmosphere and spirit typical of the seaside houses in Villers-sur-Mer, Normandy's iconic seaside resort. To achieve this, we used stripes in various forms: in the tile layout, the fabrics used for the cushion and bench covers, the wallpaper in several rooms of the house, and the paint used to create stripes in some of the bedrooms.

We also wanted to evoke the theme of the bather, emblematic of the Normandy coast and Deauville in particular. This nod to tradition takes shape in the form of wallpaper by Adam Ellis, spotted in a magazine and custom-made for this project.

The exterior designed as a living space

For this project, significant work was also carried out on the exterior of the house to enhance its identity and authenticity. We redesigned the joinery, reworking its appearance and incorporating glass surfaces in place of the old garage doors. Two garages were converted into bedrooms, optimizing the space while remaining in keeping with the style of the house.

The garden was redesigned in collaboration with a landscape architect. The grounds were completely redeveloped, with the entire terrace reworked to create intimate corners in different areas of the garden. A swimming pool and a paddle tennis court were also added below the house.

Let's bring your space to life.
