Complete renovation of a large Haussmann-style apartment

This 150-square-meter apartment, located on the second floor of a Parisian building, reveals the elegance of its architecture the moment you step inside. The abundant moldings, generous spaces, and majestic ceiling height bear witness to the building’s rich history.

The owners, a couple returning to Paris after more than ten years in London, wanted to move away from the classic codes of the Haussmannian style. As fans of 1970s vibes, bold colors, and lively interiors, they sought to infuse this apartment with a more contemporary and warm identity, while respecting its history.

An open and bright living space

To accommodate the clients’ lifestyle and their desire for a welcoming atmosphere, the reception area has been completely redesigned. A load-bearing wall was removed to expand the dining room and allow for the integration of an open kitchen at the back of the room, designed in a British style.

As part of this renovation, the opening between the living room and the dining room was widened and repositioned to maximize the view and bring in more natural light from the three large windows in a row. The original moldings and ornamentation, which the owners found too overwhelming when highlighted by gilding, were preserved and then repainted to blend more seamlessly into the space. This decision preserved the soul of the place while softening its bourgeois character.

A cozy and inviting master suite

With its U-shaped layout, the apartment is now organized around three distinct areas: a guest area, a living area, and a more intimate master suite. Designed as a true cocoon, the master suite was conceived to offer an intimate atmosphere.

The hallway leading to the bedroom has been designed as a space in its own right, both functional and warm. The use of wood creates a unifying element between this passageway and the bathroom, reinforcing the sense of continuity. The materials and deep hues contribute to this enveloping ambiance, contrasting with the more open spaces of the living areas.
