- Art Nouveau Villa -
This family villa, located in Paris’s 16th arrondissement and dating back to the early 20th century, has regained its former glory thanks to a complete renovation. Long left untouched, the house revealed stunning Art Nouveau features during the renovation process: ornate façades, medallions, and delicately crafted stained glass windows that had been hidden under layers of paint.
The home is spread over several levels: a spacious living area on the ground floor, a large master suite and guest bedrooms on the first floor, and a top floor entirely dedicated to the children. The basement, once a large cellar, has also been transformed into a playroom for the kids.
One of the home's major assets is its dual aspect, allowing for abundant natural light. This brightness was further enhanced by reconfiguring the layout and adding several glass partitions, creating a better connection to the lush garden. The living room now opens directly onto the terrace and garden, offering a true sense of indoor-outdoor living.
The home’s vertical circulation has been completely reimagined: a single central staircase now connects all levels up to the rooftop terrace, made accessible through the addition of a skylight dome. This original staircase was carefully preserved and restored to highlight its character. It also inspired the design of the new railings, which have been elegantly echoed in the garden and on the rooftop terrace.
To enhance light and create visual depth, a glass canopy was added to the entrance hall, opening up new sightlines through the space. A beautiful surprise was uncovered above the front door: three original stained glass windows hidden behind a false wall. The entrance door itself was redesigned in the spirit of the original, with the addition of a glass insert - striking a balance between heritage preservation and modern comfort.
The kitchen was enlarged to create a spacious, light-filled living area designed for conviviality. An original bow window was restored and highlighted to form a cozy alcove, the perfect spot for a custom-built bench and an inviting dining nook. The homeowners wanted color in this space, so a bold and warm palette was chosen to infuse the heart of the home with personality and character.
The original large living space was subtly reimagined into two distinct areas - a dining room on one side and a lounge on the other -retaining its charm while gaining in functionality. A small office nook, discreetly tucked away at the end of a corridor, offers a quiet retreat without disconnecting from the main living space, all while enjoying a soothing view of the garden. As a nod to the home’s early 20th-century origins, the original door handles were carefully restored, while a vintage mirror - one of the owners’ favorite finds - now sits proudly above the fireplace, adding a true touch of authenticity.
The living room now opens directly onto the large wooden terrace and garden, creating a true sense of continuity between indoors and outdoors. The newly leveled terrace is perfectly suited for hosting family gatherings and making the most of the outdoor space.
The garden itself was redesigned to provide a welcoming play area for the children. Throughout the renovation, several original decorative elements were uncovered and restored - such as wall ornaments - further enhancing the home’s authentic character.
The first floor houses the guest bedrooms and the master suite. One of the guest rooms stands out with a strong personality, featuring a bold blue-green hue highlighted by Le Chemin des Demoiselles wallpaper from Les Dominotiers, along with a bathroom in matching tones.
Designing the master suite presented a real challenge: integrating two large walk-in closets, a spacious bathroom, a bright bedroom, and a separate home office. The space was thoughtfully divided into distinct zones, striking a balance between comfort, elegance, and practicality.
The top floor is entirely dedicated to the children, featuring two spacious bedrooms. Each room has its own private bathroom and reflects a strong personality, carefully designed to match its young occupant. The children were fully involved in the creation of this floor and their individual spaces, choosing the colors, furniture, and overall ambiance themselves.
Finally, one of the home’s standout features is its stunning rooftop terrace. Previously overlooked, it has been completely reimagined into a true living space in its own right. Once difficult to access and underutilized, it was integrated into the renovation project with the same level of care as the interior spaces.
At the very top of the central staircase, a skylight dome was added to provide easy access while also bringing natural light down through the house. The rooftop terrace is now thoughtfully designed to make the most of the breathtaking 360° views over the rooftops of Paris.
